1. Would it encourage the dog to tear up the product and therefore other stuffed animals as well?
It is a known fact that dogs love to chew. Whether it is plastic, rubber, rawhide, shoes or a stuffed doll. The Purpose of our product is to give a real distinction. We want to educate the dogs so they will know that their toy has a smell of rawhide and they won’t be as interested in other stuffed dolls such as children’s stuffed toys. We also do not design our products to resemble the toys that children might have, such as teddy bears. Our stuffed toys are shaped like the rawhide bone inside.
After the rawhide is removed from the doll, the dog sometimes will continue to carry the doll around as it still contains the rawhide smell. This will keep the dog’s interest away from children’s dolls, eliminating confusion for the dog and the stress from getting punished for chewing up the wrong toy.
2. Would this make the dog more aggressive?
If the dog is already an aggressive dog, our product would allow the dog to release any pent up emotions without punishment. Instead, the dog would be rewarded with the rawhide bone inside. We have not seen any indication that a dog has become more aggressive. We feel this product would be more apt to calm down an aggressive dog.
In our studies we have noticed that whether or not a dog’s personality is more docile or aggressive, shows the approach they use with Bony-Babies®. The more docile animal will only nibble or carry around the product and keep it close at hand. The more aggressive dog tends to tear into the product with great pleasure, usually opening one end and taking out the rawhide bone, then settling down with the bone, still keeping the doll close at hand. They seem very happy and satisfied.
3. Will the dog eat the fabric?
Although we have yet to see any of the dogs we tested consume any part of the toy except the rawhide, we have made the product out of a natural and non-toxic material, sewn, no glue, to protect the dogs should they be the type to eat the fabric. If you have a dog that enjoys tearing it up and eating it all, feel rest assured the product is safe. For the dog to get to the rawhide bone, the dog usually picks one area to open and pulls out the bone, leaving the doll mostly intact. Sometimes they will take off a small part, but they don’t usually try to eat it.
4. Will there be a mess when the dog chews up the toy?
Our product is purposefully made out of needle punch felt and PP cotton to avoid creating a mess. The small amount of stuffing material clumps together thus leaving very little to pick up when the dog removes the bone. The time that it takes for the dog to finish the bone varies with each dog.
5. Will a dog choke on this product?
There is no more risk in giving this product to a dog than just a bone, stuffed animal, plastic toy, chew rope or rubber toy. Our product is made out of natural, non-toxic material that is sewn, no glue! Our tags also instruct the consumer to remove the tag before giving it to the dog.
